back to poems 2011

...june 18 2011...

four years

hummmingbird

inside a tiny corner shop
of coffee promises
the seventh day and month and year
of the millennium
i wonder if we realized
how much two lives could change?

four years ago i did not know
that vashon was an island –
i swam beneath vancouver suns
in waves of happenstance
between the sands of english bay
and pavement pubs and friends –

four years ago we did not know
the colours of our names –
until we touched that strangest day
that gathered in the sevens
to realign our travelling stars
into new patterns –

now goldfinches and grosbeaks
and hummingbirds and bees
overlap realities
with beaches and lagoons
to vibrate mystic breezes
that spiral us in change –

a city country spinning
of recreated lives
in lupins daisies daffodils
and sunshine clouds and rain –
where goldfishes weave lily ponds
with butterflies and frogs –

as if – within some history
before our lives were born
we made a pledge to be this now
of soul-self promises –
transparency – the essence of
the loves that we explore.
